4/5 = 80 quid
In light of all the snow, where we live in Switzerland, I have had to take to using my wife’s spinning bike for a form of cycling. I am not sure if it really is a good substitute for being out on the road, certainly it does not offer the same views, but on the flip side you can cycle with your eyes shut! I am sure this is not quite the same as having a bike on a turbo trainer, but feel that spending money on something else to go in the basement is really counter intuitive.
I have just made the sad decision to pull out of the Cape Argus in South Africa which I had hoped to do with my cousin, but work has conspired against me going away in March, as a result I am on the lookout for another ride that I can use for a target in the Spring of 2015. I have seen a nice ride in Mallorca that would not need me to take so long of work to participate in. So I am considering the Mallorca 167 in April (I think the 312 might be a step too far), at least then I will have a good idea of riding a distance at a fixed speed, also experience of having other riders around and with over 8,000ft of climbing a decent challenge to train for. In addition, I don’t think my wife would mind coming along as she could catch some early sun down on the beach, waiting for me to plug my way around the course. I do need a target before turning up in London in September and I think that I have found a decent one.
So more time invested on the Spinning bike is all I can do while the snow lies heavy on the ground.
