Asking people for money

I've never been much good at asking people to give me money, which I guess defines what fundraising/sponsorship is even if it's not me that personally benefits. The previous bike rides I've done (only one a year over the last 3 years so no big deal) have involved me forking out a few quid rather than stalk friends and colleagues at work, although some of my family and a couple of friends have given me money - to go away I thought at the time.

So here I am on the first real day of asking for sponsors and I'm already humbled (and slightly embarrassed) by the wonderful reaction and generosity of friends and family. I will write to everyone personally to convey my thanks but there are also a couple of people on the list of sponsors who I don't know how to contact, so may I send a big thank you to Emma Evans and Rebecca Pointon.

I suspect my daughter Emma may have touted my cause on Facebook but she and my lad Phil are keen to push this for me.  They are badly affected by their Mom's (Chris's) latest illness but at the same time inspired by her bravery, strength, and undying optimism. She has never complained once in the last 5 years of torment. On top of this one of Emma's best friends, Xena, is also currently fighting off cancer (again) and her courage is also inspiring.

Humbled and embarrassed I may be but who cares?  I think you're all wonderful.

So thanks today to Emma James, Sukhi, Sharon, Pat McKee, Rich, Katie, Emma Evans, Rebecca, Nicola and Andy and the girls (Grace, Hannah and Amy) and Pat. Not forgetting my amazingly generous and anonymous friend and colleague who thinks my acting performance in front of the Chief Constable deserved an Oscar - and who am I to disagree?

Thanks - take care,

Graham

Asking people for money is never easy but you shouldn't be shy about it as you're doing a really great thing for a really great cause and people like me wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for people like you.

Here's a link to some top fundraising tips which might prove useful: http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/ten-step-online-fundraising

Thanks again for everything you're doing to help us - it's much appreciated. Good luck with the training!

Thanks a lot Andy - I'm getting the hang of it I think.
Kind regards,
