Find out more about one of our supporters and why they do what they do

This edition we grill Dr Paul Hole from our Centre for Excellence in Cardiff.

1. Who are you?
Dr Paul Hole

2. Where are you from?
Raised in Swansea, living in Cardiff

3. Why are you involved with our charity?
To be involved in cancer research has always been my goal; to better understand it, but more importantly to contribute to the fight against it.

4. Where is your favourite place to be?
Any beach on the Gower Peninsula on a warm sunny day.

5. Name an inspiring book or film
127 hours, the account of Aron Ralston’s determination to survive after being trapped in a crevice in the Utah wilderness.

6. What 3 people, living or dead, would you invite to dinner?
Haha, good question. Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates and Neil Armstrong. The question is would they accept the invite??

7. What advice would you give your 13 year old self?
Make choices that you know you will be proud of in 20 years. Remember, everyone’s just making it up as they go along, whether they act like it or not. Failure is always found on the road to success.

8. What has been your favourite fundraising activity?
The Three Peaks: Middle Earth Challenge was incredibly difficult, but profound to step out of the lab coat and see a side of the charity most scientists do not see.

9. What are you proud of?
My family, they all work hard and are very patient with me.

10. Give us an idea of a typical day in your life.
Wake, mad rush to drop kids at school, cycle to work, spend day dreaming up new experiments, analysing previous ones and answering lots of questions from knocking visitors! Home to help with kids evening routine and if I’m lucky, a chance to have a rest reading the news or watching the telly with my wife Afton, till too late (hence the mad rush every morning).
