If I'd written this on time it would have been another diatribe about the weather but it's really more about me being to much of a wimp and using the excuse of cold, rain, snow, wind, dark nights [or a combination of them] as an excuse for not being able to get out on the road.
But today that's all changed, well perhaps not everything as it was still a bit cold [call me Mr Wimp] but I went out and twice in the ride the sun came out from behind the heavy clouds and all felt good with the world. I really hoped three months on the trainer would deliver some benefits and the early signs are encouraging as whilst I only had time for 22.5 miles I was able to replicate the pace I'd been targeting on the trainer, despite those nasty hills.
I'm still riding my old Dawes as I don't want to get the new bike dirty yet and also I need some new shoes as the cleats on my current shoes don't work with the new pedals, and yes I now I could change the pedals but my wife doesn't, or won't till she reads this, and until then it can continue to sit keeping warm and decorating the dining room.
Booked for Vrynwy and Birnmingham last week as more preperation and will be spending the whole weekend in Wales riding back to back days to be followed the following week wth the training day in Daventry, so hopefully won't let myself down to badly, unless of course I overdo it and have no legs left.
Plenty of training between now and then though and with Spring finally here as I said at the start and to quote D-Ream "Things can only get better"
