A truly special afternoon

An afternoon that proved that whilst fancy scones and dainty sandwiches are lovely, it's the incredible support our patients give us which is the icing on the cake

Scones, clotted cream, homemade jam, dainty finger sandwiches filled with deliciousness…certainly an afternoon tea fit for a wonderful group of supportive Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research patients, their friends, family and partners. And so it was that on Thursday 20th November, almost 60 people who have contributed to our Prioritising Patient Need focus groups, naming review and towards our comprehensive revision of patient information, gathered as our guests to enjoy a beautiful tea, and hear updates about the work they have all so generously contributed to over the last 12 months.

Our Chief Executive, Cathy Gilman, delivered a passionate and inspiring speech about Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research putting patients at the heart of everything we do, and emphasising the invaluable involvement of patients themselves in making this possible and productive. Our Head of Insight, David Henderson, alongside our Research Manager, Lauren Dias, offered some feedback and a lot of thanks from the focus groups, interviews and survey findings so far, and it was also a brilliant opportunity for staff from across the organisation to meet our patients and in many cases, put faces to names they have known very well from blogging and social media.

But, most of all, it was a wonderful afternoon where patients had the opportunity to meet other people from all around the UK, chat, catch up with old friends and forge new. It was brilliant to feel the buzz in the room of people talking and supporting, sharing jokes and swapping experiences. There was a great sense of positivity, energy and appreciation, and I hope just the very start of such patient engagement events.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and made the afternoon so fantastic. We were very sorry that not everyone we invited was able to come, but we are excited for more opportunities in 2015 to bring patients together and celebrate and develop more ways to put the patients truly at the heart of everything we do.

We are very grateful to the following companies for generously supporting our costs on this occasion:

InterContinental Hotels Group
GB Railfreight
Fragomen LLP

Thanks Victoria. This is a lovely blog. It's great to read how PPN is bringing us even closer to patients. Everyday at LLR is amazing and your blog highlights just how very special our charity is.
