Vrynwy Bikeathon & Massive brownie points

Just back from the Vrynwy bikeathon and once again thanks to all who helped in the organisation of this great event.

If you have ever thought of taking part in one of the regional bikeathons but not sure about your ability  then this is the ideal starter.

  1. It's round a lake so all but flat
  2. As its around the lake you're never more than six miles form the start
  3. Its around a lake and the scenary is stunning
  4. The roads are virtually empty and all the other road users, well 99.9% are very concious and careful of the riders

As a virgin rider what more could you want, ok the weather today was not at it's best but still dry and after a great ride the team joined up for a picnic by the lake before heading home.

Thanks again to the organisers we had a great time and will be back.

On to the brownie points. As I have mentioned before in my blogs this was a part of my training plan for London to Paris and as such I had planned to go up on Saturday and ride the course a few times then stop over night to ride on Sunday with an early start getting a lap in before the start.

So anyway I told my wife I'd booked us into a bed and breakfast for the overnight so planned ahead and sorted out plenty of reading for sitting by the lake on Saturday. But as a thank you for all her support I had actually booked us into the hotel and spa on the lake, so she was able to enjoy the spa overlooking the lake whilst I toiled round, of course I was able to join her afterwards as well. Anyway despite my concerns she'd twigged it, it came as a complete surprise so all went well, unfortunately she will now expect this every year I fear.

Managed only to get in 35 miles on Saturday due to a late arrival and some strong headwinds slowing me down. This morning dawned still overcast with a little less wind but still cold. Got up early and got a lap in before getting down to the start to meet the rest of the team and then we were off and manged to ccomplete another three so 48 miles before I was called in.

Great weekend and this ride is wholeheartedly reccomended to any wanabe riders.

Couple of short rides this week before meeting up in Daventry with L2P team for another long ride and test myself in a team as always riding on my own so far.
