Why I'm running 21km

Some of you may know that I'm not a seasoned and regular runner, so when the Caythorpe Dash half marathon came up again I was in two minds as to whether to run it so soon after an indulgent Christmas, plus I'm 40 now! But when I heard that a friend of ours was unexpectedly diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia after thinking he might have had a case of kidney stones, it shocked me.

Something so serious affecting someone we know and relatively out of nowhere too. You forget that anyone can be diagnosed with a cancer or serious illness, and blood cancers alone affect  30,000 people in the UK every year. So it's given me the push to raise some money for a worthwhile charity, the UK’s only charity dedicated 100% to blood cancer research, and ultimately cure, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. All donations received will fund research that will mean others will benefit from better treatments and faster diagnosis in the future.

So the fundraising begins and I'd better start some training!! ( not something I'm normally keen on doing!!) especially if I want to beat my personal best too and do it in under 2 hours! The Caythorpe Dash is a half marathon cross country, multi terrain run! Wish me luck!

This Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research donation page means that 100% of the money raised will go directly to them with no third parties taking a slice :)
