For #WorldCancerDay Joe will be at school!
My six year old son, Joe, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in October 2014. This blog is tracking the course of his treatment, and life around it. For regular posts see https://kamransword.wordpress.com, or follow us on Twitter @joehasleukaemia
February 4, 2016 is #WorldCancerDay.
Not a day I'd have paid much attention to, just sixteen months ago; but everything changed in October 2014. At that stage, Joe had just started school, and hadn't even settled into the new routine when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Now, we are in week 60 of treatment, and over six months into 'maintenance'. We still have two years of treatment to go, and this week is a 'steroid' week, so he's a little more tired, more anxious and more grumpy than usual. But to the passer-by, Joe looks like any other child in his class - his hair and energy have returned, and he loves school; every minute of it. So to mark #WorldCancerDay, I am going to celebrate Joe being at school all day.
