Bishop’s Castle Round and About Walks
Ramble, amble or scramble around the beautiful Shropshire Hills and help us beat blood cancer
Round and About Walks offer adventurous types the chance to ramble, amble or scramble through the Shropshire countryside. Participants can choose from three distinct routes and distances, catering for a wide range of abilities and experience.
Ramble, amble or scramble
Ramble and Scramble start between 08.30 and 10.00 and the Amble starts between midday and 1pm.
This beautiful circular 22.5-mile ramble covers the rolling Shropshire hills from and back to Bishop's Castle, via Offa's Dyke, Shropshire Way, the Walcot Estate and Bury Ditches, with a welcome hot vegetarian lunch provided at Clun.
This 13-mile hill walk leaves Bishop's Castle, to climb up to Offa's Dyke from Mainstone, then enjoying views along the Cefns before dropping down past its castle to Clun, for lunch and transport back to Bishop's Castle.
Transport is provided to Clun for lunch before an undulating 9.5-mile stroll to Bury Ditches, then through the normally private Walcot Estate, and Oakeley Mynd, to Bishop's Castle.
The route crosses quite remote countryside some of which, notably the Walcot Estate, is not normally open to the public. It is, however, particularly safe in that it provides clear signage, written instructions, and helpful marshalls.
Please note that we are unable to allow dogs on this walk. This is mostly due to the walk being entirely on agricultural land.
By taking part in this event, you’ll help us fund our ground-breaking research which has made such a difference to blood cancer. Last year, we raised £7,000, the cost of the centrifuge used by Prof. Paul Murray at Birmingham University in his research on the lipids which cause lymphomas.
