In your area

Beating blood cancer in your back yard: find out how you can support us in your area.

Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Branch

Welcome to the Blackpool Fylde & Wyre Branch page. We were formed in 1965 and we've been raising money to beat blood cancer ever since. Although many faces of our dedicated team have changed over the years, our passion for fundraising for Bloodwise remains just as strong!

We’ve raised over £650k to date and are aiming for our next big milestone – could you help us to get there?

How can you help?

Our calendar is full of events in our local area, and we're always looking for new people to join our group, whether you'd like to get involved on a regular basis or just help out whenever you can. If you'd like to join us, we'd love to hear from you, so please get in touch.

What do we do?

As a group, we hold regular street collections, supermarket collections and attend village club days and festivals; so relationships with local organisations are important to us.

We’re grateful to everyone who shows their support, including in past years: Blackpool Hoteliers Association, Windmill Players, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel, Rotaract, Round Table, National Farmers Union Ladies, Royal Lytham Golf Club, plus many local schools and colleges.

The national Bloodwise campaigns give us a boost too, with the ever popular Tea with the Girls events run in our local community – a chance to put the kettle on and bake (eat!) lots of cake…

Make it personal

Individual fundraisers take on personal challenges for us, be it sporting, including swimming, running, cycling, walking and trampolining; more theatrical activities, such as poetry reading; or health challenges, for example sponsored slimming.

London to Paris 2018

Our Treasurer, Steve, took part in the London to Paris cycle ride in September 2018. He rode with over 100 other amateur cyclists, over four days and raised more than £6,000! Check out the London to Paris music video for a giggle...

Want to see more? Take a look at their journey on Day 1, Day 2, our own Steve at 50 seconds in on the Day 3 video, and finally Day 4.

These videos give you goosebumps and make you want to sign up to next year's ride. Steve will be!

Start small

Collection tins are a fantastic steady source of income and a low maintenance way to raise funds. Just get in touch if you’d like us to supply you with a tin or two, to keep at home, take to work or place in a local shop. We’d empty the tin for you when full and replace it with a new one, so there’s always room for more loose change!

We also run a 100 Club, whereby a target of 100 members contribute a regular small sum by Direct Debit, with the growing pot of money divided into a proportion of prizes each quarter and the remainder donated to the branch. Drop us a note if you’d like an application form to be a 100 Club member.

Help is always needed to tend the ‘Leukaemia Rose’ bed of remembrance in Blackpool Stanley Park. Located near the tennis courts, this beautiful collection of flowers has recently been replanted – funded by a variety of small donations from local individuals. The original plaque remains, to mark the spot and raise awareness of Bloodwise.

Who are our members?

We’re a happy little group of fundraisers from across the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area. And with no local group at Preston, we also welcome folk from further inland too!

Linda Whitworth has been our Chairman since 1989, and our branch also features one of Bloodwise’s national Trustees as our Treasurer – Steve Prescott-Jones.

Where do we meet?

We have quarterly branch meetings of an evening in the Community Room at Tesco Extra at Clifton, near the M55 junction – easy to reach and do your shopping at the same time!

Get in touch

Drop us a note and Steve will be back in touch with you as soon as possible. Can’t wait to meet you!
