Stopping blood cancer before it starts

The impact of the five biggest blood cancer killers on lives lost may be even larger if we include the pre-malignant conditions that precede some of them.

This includes conditions like monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), which almost all patients have prior to developing myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), which are linked with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Understanding and treating conditions like this in their own right could help with successful management and may even help prevent pre-malignant conditions progressing.
