Another incredible year of fundraising for Wickes!
2013 has been another incredible year for our longest serving corporate partner Wickes. The partnership is now in its seventh year and in total Wickes have raised an incredible £3.5million! In 2013, Wickes have continued to tirelessly fundraise, hoping to smash all previous records! So as Wickes’ new account manager I thought I’d take this opportunity to reflect on their achievements this year.
Throughout 2013 Wickes colleagues, customers and suppliers have taken on a whole host of challenges to help beat blood cancer. From cake sales, raffles, auctions, fancy dress days, body waxes and baked bean baths in store to treks, cycles, swims and challenges in their spare time, there are a whole range of ways Wickes employees have been getting involved.
In June this year Wickes stores up and down the country united to take part in the Big Rowathon. A challenge event where each store rowed 84,740 metres – the distance from Dover to Calais and back – to raise money for our life-saving work. In total the stores covered 84million miles and raised over £75,000!
Tim Matthews, Wickes Charity Chairman said: “Every store is active on some level, with the majority increasingly seeing the great benefits which come with having such an important cause to unite colleagues. They are constantly working with each other to organise activities which will raise as much money as possible. We are proud to be supporting Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and will continue to work together to beat blood cancer.”
It’s not just Wickes colleagues who have been raising money. Over the August Bank Holiday, Wickes once again ran their 50p ask, where they asked all their customers whether they would add 50p to their bill to help fund our groundbreaking work. This incentive alone helped raise an incredible £48,000 over the weekend.
Wickes suppliers have also been in on the action, raising a very generous amount at their annual supplier dinner at the Camden Round House on Thursday 5 December. Fundraising took the form of a silent auction, raffle and donations on the night. We are still counting up the monies raised but are confident that it was another hugely successful event.
I personally would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Wickes who has worked so hard this year to raise more money than ever before, and I’m looking forward to continue working with them in the new year!
