Today was David's first attempt at riding to school. After finally upgrading his bike and making sure he had all the correct gear, the forecast wasn't looking promising but when we woke up there was no stopping him. I was going to ride with him to make sure he was ok but I was conscious that I might ruin his street-cred so I promised to ride a few hundred metres back! He made it to school safely and I carried on to get a bit of practice in. I got quite warm by the end so the driving rain was helpful!!! Later in the afternoon I did the return journey to meet David. The sun was out and I sailed along the prom...until I turned the corner by the fort. The wind hit then and I was headed into the wind for a couple of miles in "granny" gear and travelling no faster than 7 mph. When I met son no. 1 he was NOT happy to see me as he was with about 8 of his friends. Discretion is the better part of valour, so I left him to it and turned back the way I'd come. By this time the wind was behind and I sailed along. There was no-one out along the prom and I hit 31 mph at one point. Hopefully June 21st won't be as windy!
