Half way through cycle 1

So, day 5 of cycle 1 today. Awful day yesterday but upped my anti sickness today so feel much better.

The support we have from our friends and family is just incredible, from care packages for me to meals cooked and grass cut at home.

Today was my last day of having 3 doses of chemo but with platelet and blood added to that I've been hooked up all day, just as well I can move the maching to the toilet fairly quick!

Had my wig fitting tody, I think I'm in denial about losing my hair, I'm so worried about the kids getting freaked out but the wig company were amazing and found the most perfect wig for me, I'm going to get a couple of head scarfs for nighttime too.

Anyway, bring on day 6....

Hi Josephine,

Really glad that you've had your anti-sickness medication bumped up and that this is helping you to feel better and relieved to hear that you've got an army of friends and family to help you through everything.

I hope that the cycle continues to go well and that your wig fitting went well. When does the first cycle finish?

Stay in touch and thanks again for sharing your experiences.

Hi Andy,

my first cycle finishes on Saturday, the day after my 34th birthday! Think I'll delay the celebrations

Hi Josephine,

Many hugs from a fellow AML sufferer. I am 10 months in remission now, and it seems to have gone quickly, even though it might not seem that way in the midst of the chemo cycles.

My hair went around day 19/20, my friend shaved it to a grade 2 around day 10 once I'd got my head around it all in readiness. I have to admit to crying all the way through it, but once it was gone it felt like a weight had been lifted. It all fell out within a few days, and I was worried about my 4 little ones freaking out too. I wore my wig the first time I saw them after it fell out, and we bought coloured wigs for everyone else to try on and laugh about to break the ice. We took pictures of everyone, even daddy and grandad in them. The next time they saw me, I had my wig off, I couldn't face wearing it all the time in the house, but to be honest, they barely batted an eyelid. I told them that mummy's special medicine made her hair fall out but it would grow back soon. 4 months on from my final cycle I was sporting a very cute curly pixie cut. Kids are surprising how well they deal with it all.

Good luck with the rest of the chemo, I hope you are back home with your family soon.

Emily
