Ben Reinhardt ( Cheshire south committee member ) and Jim Forkin ( fund raiser ) are cycling the majestic River Rhine from its source in the Alps ( Lake Toma near Andermatt ) to its outlet in the North Sea at Hoek van Holland 32 km from Rotterdam in Holland .
The total distance covered will be 1378 km ( 860 miles ) during 3 weeks 9th to 30th September with a half way stop in Mannheim Germany of two days 17th September to sample the Wurstmarkt ( local and largest wine festival in the world at Bad Durkheim ) . Once recoverd from this the plan is to finalise the adventure by finishing at the North Sea outlet 28th /29th September for the flight home

9th September – Arrive Basel airport then train to Hospental Hostel
10th September – Locate and visit the Rhine source – this will involve a climb to the lake from the south side of the Oberalppass at 2345 m by footpath taking 90 minutes
11th September – Pick up cycles from Andermatt or Goschenen train station then ride the first two stages of 87km(55 miles ) to Chur . Descent will be 2046m to 585m so hope the brakes are working . First day cycling so short distance to get acclimatised and see the wonderful scenery .
