I really enjoyed attending the first Bigger Picture event in Newcastle last Thursday evening, a breath of fresh air and a wonderful idea for an informal get together instead of formal meetings. I was there representing North Northumberland with my husband and two other members of our Fundraising Group.
It was lovely to have a glass of wine and some delicious canapes whilst catching up with fundraising friends from all over the North East. It is always rewarding to meet other fundraisers, as you don't feel you are raising money in isolation and it is good to encourage each other to keep going. Pictured above are some of the guests we got chatting with.
I particularly enjoyed listening to Dr Vicky Forster, a former patient who is now a fully qualified research doctor in Newcastle, her story is truly inspirational.
I was very impressed by Professor Anthony Moorman, who spoke about research into leukaemia, obviously a particular interest of mine. It was fantastic to hear how well the money we raise is used. It was also lovely to meet some of the young researchers on the evening.
Trying to solve a huge jigsaw stating TOGETHER WE WILL BEAT BLOOD CANCER, looked like a challenge too far, but the North East supporters and researchers were more than match for the challenge. I just hope all the other areas manage to solve the puzzle as well.
Keep up the good work!
