Staff Blog. - Injury time out!

So far my London marathon training has been going well.  Under the guidance of Ben from the Unstoppables it has consisted of morning runs around Victoria Park, Lunch time runs around Regents Park, fast track sessions with my brilliant running club Queens Park Harriers and long weekend runs with BBC 6music in my ears. This was up until 3 weeks ago.

On 21st Feb. I did the Finsbury Park Parkrun, quite a fun 5km run, well attended and road based. The circuit is two loops of Finsbury Park with two killer hills stuck in for good measure! It is one of London's many different parkruns which if you are unfamiliar, I highly recommend everyone does as they are free to enter. Everything was going swimmingly until the last ten metres where I suddenly felt pain in my hamstring. I hobbled over the line.

This injury left me with no choice but to take one week off from any physical exercise in order to recover for the Bath half marathon the following weekend.

Race day came and I felt fine. Four miles in and ouch! I struggled on until I was half way through but frustratingly had to pull out.

So what am I doing now? Bath half hasn't really done me any good to be honest so unfortunately 10 days off running. I am still training though, going out in the mornings on a boris bike for exercise followed by a 50min walk to work which thankfully doesn't hurt. I can't really sit in the office so quite often I'm finding myself standing up. I am hoping that I can do the Mile End parkrun this Saturday, I am fingers crossed that I will recover in time.

Lesson learned WARM UP & STRETCH!
