Quiz for a cure

Your starter for ten: what do Alan Shearer, the Atlas Mountains and the Magic Roundabout all have in common? They were all correct answers in our quiz last week!

We saw 8 courageous teams battling it out to be CMS quiz champions.  Competiveness emerged early on with a battle for the quirkiest team name – the clever ‘Halal – is it meat you’re looking for?’ coming out as a clear winner closely followed by ‘Quiztina Aguilera’.

The evening was compered by our fearless CSR chief, Rob Powell, ably assisted by Ian Herbert, a partner from our Energy Team who strove to be the ‘Dec’ to Rob’s ‘Ant’.  Priya Shah effortlessly coordinated and kept the event on track in her usual glamorous fashion assisted by the rest of team foracure.

Through a number of testing rounds which stretched the teams’ knowledge of history, geography, TV theme tunes, film and sport, difficult questions were grappled with and slightly dodgy answers given.  The stand out section was the Family Fortunes round, where contestants had to guess what the most popular answers were to certain questions.  Some of the answers for the question ‘Hardest thing to get your leg over’ are unrepeatable, but we can confirm the answer was actually a horse.

While our champion quiz marking team furiously checked the teams’ scrawls, the raffle rolled into action.  We’d managed to find some great prizes including a signed Newcastle United football shirt, a speedboat ride on the Thames, a cookbook from Willie’s Cacao along with some of their sumptuous chocolates, manicures from MWNails and a selection of deluxe beauty products.

After the excitement of distributing these top raffle prizes, the teams tensely awaited the results of the quiz.  A team from our Pensions department, ‘Marky Mark and the funky bunch’, came out top (although it was a close run thing) and delightedly received their prize of bottles of wine (which they promptly opened and began to drink in celebration).

Overall the night was a roaring success and we are delighted to confirm that £850.50 was raised for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.  A big thank you to all who assisted in making the evening a success, everyone who came and participated in such good humour and all who donated raffle prizes.
