Royal London smash £100,000 fundraising target

Royal London joined us as a corporate partner 2 years ago with a target of £100,000. I am immensely proud to tell you their colleagues have smashed that target by raising a whopping £145,000! Not only that, but off the back of recent partnership successes, Royal London has agreed to keep us as their Charity of the Year for the rest of 2015.

With offices across the country, employees have really worked together to raise this money. We’ve had bake sales, jars of sweets and fancy dress. Tough mudders, epic cyclists and long distance runners. And the latest event which brought all the Royal London colleagues together was their Pedometer Challenge to walk around the world.

Donned with stylish Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research pedometers, 750 members of staff set up 46 teams with a united goal - to walk 24,900 miles around the world. Of course we wanted to introduce a bit of friendly rivalry, so in addition, teams were competing to raise the most amount of money, walk the furthest and come up with the most creative fundraising ideas. Prizes kindly donated by Royal London made it a real competition, with the chance of winning fitness watches and a duvet day for every member of the team – if that isn’t worth raising money for I don’t know what is!

Over the month of February, the teams managed to not only walk around the World, but also do a lap of honour via a different route. And to make all the walking worthwhile, they raised an incredible £40,000. This far surpassed expectations, and makes me very excited to see what we can achieve in the coming months. We already have some exiting events in the pipeline, so watch this space!
