Our unstoppable fundraiser of the month for April has just completed the London Marathon.
Richard Osborne finished in a highly impressive time of 3 hours 47 minutes. What’s even more impressive is that he has raised over £6000 in the process!
Richard tells us in his own words why he chose to run the London Marathon for our charity:
“Four years ago, my step son Samuel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on his 4th birthday. It was a terrible day for the whole family and it was just the start of a long journey for Sam as he was treated for the next 3 and a quarter years of his life.
I had absolutely no idea when Sam first started his treatment just how harsh and punishing the treatment is and how severely it affects the body. There were times during the treatment when he was extremely weak and extremely unhappy, it was very long road and at times we couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Four years on, Sam has completed his treatment and is really well. All of the hospital staff and team that helped to save Sam's life were fantastic. I would love to give something back to all that helped Sam to fully recover and all those who are totally committed to the cause of beating Leukaemia.
I see the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research organisation as a major force in improving the way that Leukaemia is treated. Whilst the survival rates are higher than ever the treatment programme is a horrible experience for children. There is nothing I'd like to see more than a cure for the disease which allows children to lead a normal life whilst being treated.”
