Our unstoppable fundraisers of the month for March are setting a perfect example of how to make the most of your challenge. They aren't just generating sponsorship - they're also getting their fundraising matched by an employer and raising some fantastic awareness! Carl Fleming and his sister Ruth Fleming are unstoppable.
Carl has set himself the challenge of riding John O’Groats to Lands End via the 3 peaks Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in May 2012. He is doing the ride completely unsupported and will be joined by family and friends for the 3 peaks walks. He's being supported by his sister Ruth with fundraising and gaining sponsorship.
As well as raising a huge amount through their JustGiving page, they've been generating some fantastic awareness for their event and for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research through several local newspapers! On top of that, Ruth's employer is matching the money she raises with Carl, through a matched funding scheme. The following is Carl's story. Please take a moment to read it, and anything you can sponsor him will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
“In December 2009 our cousin John Holmes passed away just weeks after being diagnosed with leukaemia. He was just 29, very fit and an avid surfer and keen cyclist. I want to raise money to support research in John’s memory. He was a wonderful person, full of enthusiasm for life. Just days before he was diagnosed, we’d spent the weekend together with our partners in Barcelona. He was always active, loved cake (!) and enjoyed spending time with his Mum, fiancée Amy and many friends.
"Bekah Morris from Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has been a great support since we got in touch. We’ve had a book sale, cake sale and aerobathon so far and with sponsorship and collection pots in our local pub, have raised £1809 to date. We have a quiz night and a golf evening coming up and the local community have been fantastic in supporting these events.
"Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is a very good cause and important to us. We hope that our fundraising continues to help those people affected.”
