In the second blog instalment from the Wickes Cross Channel Challenge Team, Colin Contini talks about the monumental kayak challenge they face across the busiest shipping lane in the world…

I am writing this blog at 8.00am on Sunday morning (May 26th), knowing that in exactly 2 weeks’ time, we will be sitting in our Kayaks in Folkestone harbour, waiting to set off on our voyage across the English Channel. (How scary is that???)

The crossing is the most unpredictable and unknown element of the whole charity event, as it is heavily dependent on the weather conditions. We are hoping that the weather will be kind and that our specialist safety team will give us the thumbs up to make the crossing. Depending on the conditions that we encounter, it should take anywhere between 5 and 10 hours of hard paddling to reach France.

We may not be able to control the weather, but I am certain that whatever we are faced with, we will have an epic adventure and some great stories to share with you all.

Bon Voyage!
