A ride to Bridgnorth and back

Well today was the day we set ourself the challenge of cycling to Bridgnorth, having a coffee and then cycling back!  We had mapped out a route on map my ride which stated it would be just over 30 Miles, so a step up from last weekend.

After a busy and tiring week, we didnt get up as early as we would have liked and I think both of us on the start were struggling to banish our chimps.......still we got a 3rd of the way and had the big hill Camp Hill Road just past the Navigation pub, the week before we had done Enville Common Lane, which is still hard for a beginner..... We eventually got to the top and enjoyed the cycle down hill.

We then made our way across the countryside to the Lion at Morfe and then swung onto the main Stourbridge/Bridgnorth Road, we had it in our sights......we just had that awful last slog going into Bridgnorth, you start going down and then your back up.......thighs were burning and traffic hurtling past, we decided to change sides and use the path, which I was glad off when a Lorry when past.

We then made it to Low Town in Bridgnorth, and all I can say is what a load of inconsiderate drivers there were I was forced to stop as there was a car parked and the car behind me has no intention of letting me go through first......infact about 20 cars went past and it was another cyclist that held the traffic up for us to get round!!!

Anyway crossed the bridge, my legs would not have managed the final ascent to High Town, so we walked up the steep streets to the top, and thankfully our luck was in and a seat outside Costa became free....

We rested and refuelled and started to make our way back, thankfully initially down hill, but we had that Killer Hill to conquer, wiser from our descent we stuck to the pavement and with a couple of brief stops we made it! We managed to get back on the right road to begin with, and then decided to do a little detour and ended up back in the same place.....a helpful local helped us out as my battery life was 10% and Google Maps was not having any of it!!! What it did mean though was another climb.........eventually we hit a familar site and we knew exaclty where we were, and knew the end was in sight....

Three more final climbs to do one up to the Summerhouse, which I need did without stopping and the last two were done with legs burning but were achieved.....

Nearly 35 miles, and a whopping 1700+ ft, getting more confident in the saddle, even came out a few times, just need to master the toe clips to be more efficient, although may try my new pedals tomorrow and see how they go......

No Cycling next weekend as will be at Carfest, but hope to get some hill training in next week......and cant wait to get my turbo trainer ordered.......
