Starting a local Community Group is a really great way to raise vital funds to support blood cancer research and those affected by blood cancer, whilst also meeting new people and having lots of fun!
Starting a group doesn't have to mean lots of people or lots of hours, every single person and every penny raised can make a huge difference in bringing us closer to help beat blood cancer. From putting out collection tins in local shops, holding bucket collections in supermarkets or hosting your own fundraising events, our friendly Regional Relationships Team will help and guide you every step of the way. The Caithness Fundraising Group was founded in 1975 in Dunbeath and shortly after became the Wick Branch. The Group now fundraises in Caithness through bucket collections and raises around £1,000 each year, adding to their fantastic total of over £152,000.
The Dumfries and Galloway Community Group was established in December 2019 in memory of their son and brother Moncef. They have since held two fantastic events and are looking to grow their membership across the region whilst planning various events throughout 2020 with support from their communities.
Our Dunoon and Cowal Branch hold many events throughout the year including a school bikeathon, fundraising stalls selling chilli jam and plants, and bucket collections. The Branch was founded in 1987 and has raised over £175,000.
The Edinburgh Community Group started in Midlothian in August 2019 and now fundraises across Edinburgh with a successful quiz and Christmas raffle already! The Group is just getting established and has a list of fantastic opportunities to get involved in including a Quiz Night, bucket collections, crafts stalls and sporting challenges.
The Glasgow and District Branch raises around £30,000 each year for blood cancer research through Dine Outs, quizzes, a coffee morning that raises around £1,800, late night shopping events, bucket collections and various fundraising stalls. The Branch has raised nearly £2.5 million for blood cancer research since founding in 1971.
Every year, the Branch organises a Christmas Fayre and the September Glasgow Walk to Beat Blood Cancer in Pollok Country Park. This year's Walk is now open for registrations and participants can sign up here to take part.
The Inverclyde Fundraising Group has a regular stall at their place of work whilst also completing sporting challenges throughout the year, raising £16,500 since 2007.
The Western Isles Community Group began in May 2021 and raised over £8000 for Blood Cancer UK in their first year. From their launch event, Get Reddy, the group have raised awareness and fundraised through bake sales, honesty boxes, sponsored silences, raffles, collections, marathons and Walk of Light.
This year, the Group are launching their own Walk of Light event, the Outer Hebrides Walk of Light 2023. The event starts at Coll beach on Friday 24th March at 6pm for a sunset walk.
